High Country Tour

Our special tours can pick you up from your accomodation and take you through the historic town of Naseby then out to the top of the
Mt Ida Range giving unsurpassed views of the spectacular rugged tussock lands encompassed by several mountain ranges. The nearby  Mt Buster Goldfields (at 4000ft above sea level) were one of the
highest and richest in Otago.

Our Full Day Option

From the historic Mt Buster goldfields and its spectacular view looking into the St Mary's Range we follow the Guffies or 'Tailings creek' and its many crossings downstream until we reach the Otematata river for an early lunch after which we zig zag our way up on to the big flat tops of the Mt Ida grazing syndicate. (As seen on country calendar). After a cuppa at their main mustering hut we then traverse across to the top of the Hawkdun Range for a photographic stop of a stunning vista that looks down onto several valleys of Central Otago as well as taking in many well known mountain peaks. From here we descend down to the historic town of St Bathans for a visit to the Blue Lake and the iconic Vulcan hotel for a beer or wine and a visit to the 'haunted' room.  A cuppa and picnic lunch are provided.

Tours available Oct to May.
